In their words.
It's great when others say it for you... here's a few of my favorites relating to the fight against cancer and just life in general.
From Mitch Albom's best seller, "For One More Day"
"I hope you never hear those words. Your mom. She died. They are different than other words. They are too big to fit in your ears. They belong to some strange, heavy, powerful language that pounds away at the side of your head, a wrecking ball at you again and again, until finally, the words crack a hole large enough to fit inside your brain. And in so doing, they split you apart."
From Jonathan Alder's Newsweek story, "How I Live with Cancer"
"In a taxi en route to lunch on that awful Super Tuesday, I experienced a powerful premonition: I have cancer, it's going to be bad, but I'll live until I'm 90. Probably not, but I turn 50 this year and, full of hope, recall that great line from 'The Shawshank Redemption': 'You can get busy living,or get busy dying.' For me, it's no contest."
From Jim Valvano's epic ESPY speech
"To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. Number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special...Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever."
From Margret Mead
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world... Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
